Em, surely the satire is at the expense of those who are trans-prejudiced, and the way in which transgender folk are characterized in the mainstream as he/she ‘quotation marks’? None of the characters in the story are actually transsexual. The expert describes real ladyboys using the proper female pronoun – no quote marks. But the ‘journalist’ uses them: I think that’s part of the joke.

This article would have been funnier without the transphobia. For one, “she” and “woman”shouldn’t be in quotation marks unless you’re actively trying to be discriminatory. Basic respect for other people ? political correctness.
